10 Hr. Motivational Interviewing: Training for Recovery Coaches, Counselors, Clinicians

The instructors have a way of captivating the attention of attendees, allowing for a very hands on experience, even over Zoom. You never feel like your attention is drifting from the training, from the continual engagement.

MI is a tool that helps us to resolve ambivalence and move towards a change. It honors autonomy and depends on safety and trust. It can be life changing for the individual as well as the coach.
-Lori Drescher, Founder, RCU; Member, Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT)

Course Description:
This highly interactive and experiential workshop targets coaches, peers and clinicians seeking an engaging learning experience incorporating both Spirit and Skills in a high-value Motivational Interviewing training. The workshop offers a hands-on learning approach with ample opportunity for individual and group practice, discussion, and real case scenarios. Participants will leave with knowledge and skills for tangible, non-clinical methods and tools to help motivate and target behavioral change.

Motivational Interviewing's emphasis on change talk makes it a unique, powerful and evidence based intervention. Learners will explore a combination of basic and advanced skills and principles. An emphasis on client centered skills is ubiquitous in this training as are the guideposts autonomy, partnership and compassion.

Participants will learn skills for eliciting change talk with their clients,  helping them to gain and enhance motivation towards making meaningful behavioral changes.

Numerous learning techniques will be implemented, including discussion, exercises, demonstration, interactive practice and real plays.

Learners will hear about the latest research that guides Motivational Interviewing's increasing focus on affirmation, reflection and recognizing, reinforcing, and evoking “change talk”!

Amazing experience. Facilitators are so knowledgeable.
The interactions between class members was fantastic!
I would recommend this training to anyone considering a future as a peer advocate or recovery coach

Guide me to be a patient companion,
To listen with a heart as open as the sky.
Grant me vision to see through her eyes
And eager ears to hear her story.
Create a safe and open mesa on which we may walk together.
Make me a clear pool in which she may reflect.
Guide me to find in her your beauty and wisdom,
Knowing your desire for her to be in harmony;
Healthy, loving and strong.
Let me honor and respect her choosing of her own path,
And bless her to walk it freely.
May I know once again that although she and I are different,
Yet there is a peaceful place where we are one.

I am an avid learner and RCU has taken the time and energy to make their workshops a truly fulfilling educational experience- not tedious or monotonous, but rather eye opening and mind-blowingly interesting. I wish I could do them all!
